The
Welsh village of Aberdovey is a thriving little harbour resort set within the
magnificent Snowdonia National Park, where the river Dovey meets
Cardigan Bay. Correctly called Aberdyfi, the village is much better known by the
English spelling, possibly due to the high number of English tourists that visit
from as far North as Manchester and as far south as Bristol, due to the distance
needed to travel to find the sea. Indeed like Aberystwyth a few miles south,
Aberdovey can seem like 'West Midlands on Sea' at times but that doesn't detract
from the beauty of the village.
Aberdovey is peaceful seaside village nestling on the north side of the Dyfi
estuary with fine views across to Ynyslas Sands on the South of the estuary.
Aberdovey has watersports galore - sailing, sailboarding, canoeing, fishing and boat trips. In the summer, there are yachting regattas and other water spectacles along with family entertainment on its award-winning beaches. Aberdovey’s championship golf course at the western end of the village is also one of its major attractions.

There is a mountain road behind the square that offers superb views. Take the road from the square, turn right at the large chapel then first, sharp, left 200 yards further on. Take a right turn near the summit and continue to the end. No through road but footpath leads to the Bearded Lake. Worth visiting.
Aberdovey is a haven for those wanting to spend an energetic holiday. It has watersports galore, including sailing,
sailboarding, fishing, boat trips and the summer regatta. It also has an 18 hole championship golf course.
Accommodation in Aberdovey represents excellent value. You can choose from guest houses, self-catering flats and hotels within the village in addition to farmhouse accommodation, chalets, camping and mobile and static caravan sites.

The area around Aberdovey is littered with attractions. For example, the Talyllyn Railway, which starts in
Tywyn, is well worth a visit and there are numerous historical sites within close driving distance in addition to spectacular mountain and valley scenery including the peaks of the Cader Idris and Aran Fawddwy ranges. This is an ideal area for walkers, climbers and wildlife watchers.
Many people return to Aberdovey year after year. It is such an ideal place to relax or use as a base to explore the wild and rugged West side of Wales. Do not be surprised if you want to come and live in this area. Incidentally, many Canadian tourists who visit the area say it reminds them of home only on a smaller scale! Some recommendation .
