OK, so it's not a real pub but... When Countryfile host a live show at wonderful Blenheim Palace and erect a temporary pub, call it the Craven Arms and you know John Craven - what's not to like? We'd also recommend many of the pubs and restaurants in Woodstock as well as Blenheim Palace itself. Well it was the birthplace of Winston Churchill and lanscaped by Capability Brown - England at it's best!

Wonderful and extremely homely 16th century coaching inn with spectacular Tudor arch fireplace. We might be a bit biased about the Lamb as we visited on the way home, the day after we watched Fat Badger Kilo's favourite team win 5-0 in an FA Cup semi final at Wembley so we were already in a really good mood.

Amazing 15th Century thatched inn serving excellent food, ales and wines but don't be caught with your mobile phone switched on or with any kids or dogs, as they'll all be thrown out ! If you're looking to spend some time in a good old Gentleman's club in a comfortable and civilised atmosphere with inglenook fireplaces then the Mason Arms is perfect. Peacocks and ducks are allowed, although they may find themselves on the menu ! Formally called 'Gerry Stonhill's Individual Masons Arms', this inn serves wonderful food, has a plethora of wines to choose from and an amazing collection of vintage armagnacs and a single cask of beer in the cellar. The Mason's is well worth a visit.

The 18th Century Queens Head has had only four landlords since the second World War and the current friendly landlord has been in residence since 1983. The pub has been a regular in Camra's Good Beer Guide for years, even over three changes of brewery (Courage, Morlands and Greene King). Something that the Landlord takes great pride in. 17th Century inn constructed from the ruins of Godstow Abbey. The Trout is VERY popular with tourists as it appears in all the guides due to its long history which includes being torched by Parliamentarian troops. The Trout is now owned by the Vintage Inns Chain (Mitchells & Butlers) so the only ale you can get is draught Bass and the menu is the same as any other Vintage Inn. The Trout however, is blessed with a stunning location on the banks of the Thames.

13th century ale house tucked away behind many college buildings. If you can locate the Bridge of Sighs then the Turf can easily be found via St. Helen's Passge just behind the bridge. The service point & bars are small and busy at peak times but there a couple of large external drinking courtyards. The food is great and there are some excellent ales on offer and you may find that you're sat where former presidents, prime ministers and other notable people have been previously - Margaret Thatcher, Bill Clinton, Stephen Hawking & Oscar Wilde to name a few.

The White Hart is just a short walk from the famous tourist pub, The Trout but is a million times better. The White Hart serves superb food and well kept ales and with exceptional service. Located in a quiet village but almost in earshot of a busy A34, this creeper clad stone inn is always popular and can get very busy but is still well worth a visit.

Can a pub in the centre of Oxford not be historical? This 16th century grade II listed building is opposite the Sheldonian Theatre and was used in the filming of Inspector Morse.
